Top 20 90-Day Goals That Drive Performance

Sales

10 goals for the individual · 10 goals for the team

A free resource from Goal Machine by Darren Whitaker-Barnett

Introduction

Purpose

Twenty ambitious, specific goals — ten for individual sales professionals, ten for sales leaders and teams — each paired with daily actions that close the gap between intention and execution. For anyone who sells, at any level.

Goal Daily Action Performance

The Principles They Serve

Direction (Where am I going?), How (What am I doing daily?), and Competence (Am I getting better?) — and Law 2 (What you do daily becomes what you achieve repeatedly). Each goal is tagged with the principle it most directly serves. The daily actions are the How — the daily habits that, repeated consistently over 90 days, make the goal inevitable.

Direction How Competence Recognition Why
Introduction

From the Author

I was named New Zealand's Salesperson of the Year not because I was the most naturally talented salesperson on my team, but because I out-prepared everyone else. I studied my customers before I walked into any room. I built genuine relationships rather than managing transactions. And I treated every sales day as a system — a set of specific actions, repeated consistently, that compounded into results over time.

Across more than a billion dollars in sales across five industries, I saw the same pattern: the salespeople who sustained performance were not the ones who had the best months, but the ones who had the most consistent habits. Pipeline discipline. Prospecting without exception. The daily fifteen minutes of preparation that others skipped. These twenty goals are built around that insight. They are not inspiration — they are a system. The daily actions are where the performance lives.

— Darren Whitaker-Barnett

These are not metrics to track. They are goals to pursue — and daily actions to take. Each card includes the goal, why it matters, and the specific daily habits that, repeated consistently over 90 days, make achieving it inevitable rather than aspirational.

Goals for the Individual Sales Professional

Ten ambitious goals for anyone who sells — from SDR to Senior Account Executive.

01

Hit Quota Consistently — Not Just Occasionally

Direction
Goal

Achieve 100%+ of monthly or quarterly sales quota for at least 10 of 12 months in the year.

Why it matters

Consistency is the difference between a good month and a great career. Anyone can spike. The best salespeople sustain.

Daily action
  • Spend the first 15 minutes of each day reviewing your pipeline and identifying the single highest-priority deal to advance today.
  • Before finishing each day, record one specific action you took toward quota and one you will take tomorrow.
02

Shorten Your Average Sales Cycle

How
Goal

Reduce the average number of days from first contact to closed deal by 20% within the next 90 days.

Why it matters

A shorter cycle means more deals in the same time. Even a 15% reduction can meaningfully increase annual revenue without a single new lead.

Daily action
  • Review one stalled deal each morning and identify the single obstacle preventing it from moving to the next stage.
  • At the end of each week, audit your three longest-open opportunities and decide: advance, qualify out, or escalate.
03

Improve Your Win Rate

Competence
Goal

Increase your closed-won percentage from qualified opportunities by 10 percentage points within the next 90 days.

Why it matters

Win rate is the truest measure of sales competence. Improving it compounds — every percentage point is a multiple on pipeline value.

Daily action
  • After every lost deal, write down one reason you lost and one thing you would do differently. Review this log weekly.
  • Before every sales call, spend five minutes identifying the customer's most likely objection and preparing a specific response.
04

Build a Pipeline Worth 3x Your Quota

Direction
Goal

Maintain an active pipeline of qualified opportunities worth at least three times your quarterly target at all times.

Why it matters

A thin pipeline forces desperate selling. A full pipeline creates the confidence and patience to sell well.

Daily action
  • Add at least two new qualified opportunities to your pipeline every working day — not leads, qualified opportunities.
  • Spend 30 minutes every Friday reviewing pipeline health and removing deals that no longer meet your qualification criteria.
05

Master One New Sales Methodology This Quarter

Competence
Goal

Study, practise, and apply one recognised sales framework — Challenger, SPIN, Gap Selling, or equivalent — within 90 days.

Why it matters

The best salespeople keep learning long after they stop needing to. Methodology gives structure to instinct and lifts your floor under pressure.

Daily action
  • Spend 20 minutes each morning reading or reviewing one concept from your chosen methodology before your first call.
  • After every significant sales conversation, write one sentence on how you applied the methodology and one way to improve next time.
06

Increase Average Deal Size by 25%

Direction
Goal

Grow the average contract value of closed deals by 25% through better qualification, multi-threading, and value-based selling.

Why it matters

Selling bigger is more efficient than selling more. A 25% lift in deal size often requires less effort than a 25% increase in volume.

Daily action
  • In every discovery call, ask at least one question about the economic impact of the problem you are solving — not just the problem itself.
  • Identify one existing opportunity each week where you can legitimately expand scope and prepare a specific case for the upgrade.
07

Achieve a Net Promoter Score of 8+ From Your Customers

Recognition
Goal

Receive an average NPS of 8 or higher from post-sale customer surveys across all accounts you manage.

Why it matters

In a world of referrals and renewals, the customer's experience of being sold to matters as much as the sale itself.

Daily action
  • Send one brief, non-sales check-in message to a current customer every day — not to upsell, but to ask how things are going.
  • After every deal closes, spend five minutes documenting what you promised and set a reminder to follow up at the 30-day mark.
08

Make 100% of Your Prospecting Commitments Every Week

How
Goal

Complete every prospecting activity you commit to — calls, emails, LinkedIn touches — without exception for 12 consecutive weeks.

Why it matters

Prospecting discipline is the foundation of pipeline health. What you do in the quiet weeks determines what you close in the loud ones.

Daily action
  • Block the same 90-minute prospecting window into your calendar every morning and treat it as a non-negotiable appointment.
  • Record your daily prospecting activity in a visible tracker — even a simple tally — so you can see your streak building in real time.
09

Develop Three New Reference Customers This Quarter

Why
Goal

Identify, nurture, and close three new customers who agree to act as references or case studies for your product.

Why it matters

Reference customers are your most powerful sales asset. They close deals you could never close alone.

Daily action
  • Identify one existing happy customer each week and have a genuine conversation about their results before asking for anything.
  • Build a short reference ask into your post-sale process — within 60 days of a successful go-live, when satisfaction is highest.
10

Reduce Customer Churn in Your Accounts to Zero

Recognition
Goal

Retain 100% of your existing customer base through the next renewal cycle by proactive relationship management and value delivery.

Why it matters

Retention is the ultimate proof that a sale was worth making. Zero churn means your customers believe in the investment they made.

Daily action
  • Review your at-risk accounts every Monday and identify one proactive action you can take this week for the most vulnerable.
  • Log one piece of value delivered to each key account every week — a useful insight, a relevant article, a check-in that costs nothing.

Goals for the Sales Leader and Team

Ten goals for Sales Managers, VPs, and Revenue Leaders building high-performance teams.

01

Build a Team That Hits Quota Without You Carrying It

Direction
Goal

Achieve a quota attainment rate of 80%+ across the full team for two consecutive quarters.

Why it matters

A team where one person carries everyone else is a single point of failure. Real leadership creates a system where performance is distributed.

Daily action
  • Run a 15-minute daily standup focused on one question: what is the single biggest obstacle each rep faces today, and how can you remove it?
  • Review individual quota attainment weekly — not monthly — so you can intervene early rather than rescue late.
02

Reduce Sales Rep Ramp Time by 30%

How
Goal

Decrease the average time from hire to first closed deal for new sales reps by 30% through improved onboarding and structured coaching.

Why it matters

Every week a new rep is not yet productive is revenue delayed. A faster ramp is a direct return on your investment in hiring.

Daily action
  • Spend 30 minutes each week with each new hire reviewing their activity metrics, call recordings, and one specific skill to develop.
  • Document one onboarding improvement each week based on what you observe new reps struggling with most.
03

Create a Culture of Honest Pipeline Reviews

Recognition
Goal

Implement a weekly pipeline review rhythm where reps accurately forecast deals — within 15% of predicted — every quarter.

Why it matters

Accurate forecasting is a cultural signal. When reps know they will not be punished for honesty, they stop sandbagging and start solving.

Daily action
  • Open every pipeline review with recognition for accurate forecasting, not just for closing — signal what behavior you are rewarding.
  • After every missed forecast, spend five minutes with the rep exploring what changed and what the early warning signs were.
04

Increase Team Average Deal Size by 20%

Competence
Goal

Lift the team's average contract value by 20% through structured training in value-based selling and executive engagement.

Why it matters

A team that sells on value rather than price is more profitable, less vulnerable to discounting pressure, and harder for competitors to undercut.

Daily action
  • Run one 20-minute value-selling skill session with your team each week — one concept, one role play, one takeaway.
  • Review the last five closed deals weekly and identify one where the team left value on the table by not exploring scope expansion.
05

Achieve a Team Win Rate Above 35%

Competence
Goal

Bring the team's overall win rate on qualified opportunities above 35% and sustain it for 90 days.

Why it matters

Win rate reflects the quality of your qualification, your coaching, and your competitive positioning.

Daily action
  • Review every lost deal as a team within 48 hours — one question only: what would have changed the outcome?
  • Track win rate by rep weekly and use the data to identify coaching priorities, not to rank people publicly.
06

Develop Two Future Sales Leaders From Within the Team

Why
Goal

Identify two high-potential reps, agree a documented development plan with each, and deliver their first structured stretch assignment — all within 90 days.

Why it matters

The best sales leaders build the next generation. A team that produces leaders retains better and performs better.

Daily action
  • Give one stretch assignment each week to each high-potential rep — a presentation, a complex deal review, a coaching conversation with a peer.
  • Have a dedicated 30-minute monthly development conversation with each identified high-potential — separate from performance reviews.
07

Implement a Recognition Rhythm That Celebrates Behaviors, Not Just Results

Recognition
Goal

Establish a weekly team practice of recognizing specific selling behaviors — not just closed deals — for 90 consecutive days.

Why it matters

What gets recognized gets repeated. Teams that only celebrate the win lose the daily behaviors that produce wins consistently.

Daily action
  • Name one specific behavior you observed from a team member each day — in writing, visible to the team — that moved a deal or relationship forward.
  • Start every team meeting with a behavior recognition before looking at any numbers.
08

Reduce Customer Acquisition Cost by 15%

How
Goal

Lower the cost per acquired customer by 15% through improved lead qualification, shorter cycles, and better conversion at each stage.

Why it matters

Selling efficiently is as important as selling effectively. A 15% reduction in CAC is a direct contribution to company profitability.

Daily action
  • Review conversion rates at each pipeline stage weekly and identify the single biggest drop-off point to address this week.
  • Run a brief qualification audit each Friday — remove unqualified deals from the team pipeline and discuss what disqualified them.
09

Achieve 90%+ Forecast Accuracy for Two Consecutive Quarters

Direction
Goal

Build a forecasting process that predicts quarterly revenue within 10% of actual results — demonstrated within the next 90 days.

Why it matters

Accurate forecasting tells the business what to expect, enables better resource decisions, and builds executive trust.

Daily action
  • Spend 20 minutes each Monday reviewing the team's committed forecast against pipeline reality and adjusting before the week begins.
  • Document your forecast assumptions in writing each week — when you are wrong, you will be able to trace exactly where your thinking broke down.
10

Create a Sales Playbook Used by the Entire Team

Competence
Goal

Document the team's best practices — prospecting sequences, discovery questions, objection handling, closing approaches — into a living playbook used weekly.

Why it matters

A playbook turns individual excellence into team excellence. It means your best rep's knowledge does not walk out the door when they leave.

Daily action
  • Add one new entry to the playbook each week — a great discovery question, a successful objection response, a winning email subject line.
  • Open one team meeting per month with a playbook review: one section, one discussion, one update based on what the team has learned since.
Using This Resource

How to Use This Resource

1

The actual metrics for each goal may differ for you and your team, so feel free to personalize them accordingly. Don't pursue all 20 at once. Choose two or three that address your biggest gap right now — one from Section 1 if you are an individual contributor, one from Section 2 if you lead a team. Set them for 90 days. Do the daily actions every working day. Review at week six. Reset at week thirteen.

2

Goals tell you where to go. Daily actions are how you get there. The daily actions marked on each card are the habits that, repeated consistently over 90 days, make the goal inevitable rather than aspirational.

3

Use the 90-Day Goal Planning Template (available at goalmachine.ai/resources) to set your chosen goals formally — write them down, define the daily action, and name your biggest obstacle before it finds you.

A Final Note

Build the Direction. Build the System.

The first law of Goal Machine states that goals set direction, but systems create performance. The twenty goals in this resource provide direction. The daily actions are the system — the specific, repeatable behaviors that, compounded over ninety days, make the outcome inevitable. I closed more than a billion dollars in sales across five industries, not through exceptional talent or exceptional motivation, but through exceptional daily discipline. The pipeline review at the start of the day. The post-call note. The prospecting window that was never moved. Build the system. The results will follow.
